Steve Weston, originally from Bangor, Maine, has chosen to live and work in the beautiful Midcoast region of Maine. Along with recently being named the Artistic Director for MCC, he is currently the Music Director at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast, Assistant Conductor for Vox Nova Chamber Choir in Brunswick, and maintains a private voice and flute studio.
Steve began his education in music as a flute major, earning a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Maine. Upon completion of his degree, he continued his studies at New Mexico State University, working towards a Masters degree in composition. During this time, however, he found that choral music was his true passion, prompting a decision to earn a MM in Choral Conducting.
During this entire process, he studied, performed, learned and grew as a professional chorister, singing with the New Mexico Singers, Showcase Chamber Ensemble, Las Vegas Chamber Singers, Divisi and Vox Nova Chamber Choir, as well as directing middle school choral programs with 100 plus singers, high school choral programs with 200 plus singers and the Bangor Area Children’s Choir.
As an educator, Steve has brought the joy of singing, choral singing, and musicianship to children ages 8 through 18, young adults studying music and adults seeking to further their involvement in musical endeavors. His personal enjoyment of choral music becomes a catalyst of achievement and passion for those that sing under him. He is passionate about safe, correct singing that leads to a lifelong enjoyment.
